Job description

Owens Community College, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Nursing & Health Professions. The Dean of Nursing and Health Professions is responsible for strategic leadership to develop an ever-improving institution as well as operational leadership for an effective, efficient, and dynamic College. The Dean also represents the college and school to external stakeholders.

While officially located at the Perrysburg, Ohio campus, this position plays a key role in serving Owens Community College’s Toledo-area campus and its Findlay-area campus in Findlay, Ohio, offering the opportunity to engage with and support both campus communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, oversee, and guide the development, implementation, and evaluation of short-range and long-range strategic planning consistent with and in support of the college’s strategic plan, mission and objectives.
  • Participate in and support shared governance by serving as a member on committees called by the President, Chief Academic Officer, and other College committees, councils, and campus organizations.
  • Foster an open educational attitude and develop a team concept for College unity through developing strong working relationships and communications with other Deans, Directors, Vice Presidents, College President, and other college administrators.
  • Represent the interests of the school to college administration.
  • Promote a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Be a strong advocate for all programs within the school.
  • Ensure that all programs are compliant with administrative policies and procedures and adheres to all accreditation standards.
  • Identify emerging workforce needs and academic issues while recommending appropriate program responses to ensure that curriculum and related resources are current, relevant, and innovative.
  • Recruit, retain, and lead high-quality faculty and staff.
  • Implement and oversee School and Departmental budgets in accordance with established institutional standards and guidelines. Ensure budget goals are met on an annual basis.
  • Participate in and supervise efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate students from the school’s programs.
  • Promote and support faculty and staff scholarship and encourage a dynamic environment for research and creative and artistic activity.
  • Resolve complaints and grievances of students, staff, and faculty while ensuring that established policies are followed in those resolutions.
  • In association with other college administrators, determines the charge of and appoints members to college committees.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree with a major in a discipline related to the School of Nursing and Health Professions; Ph.D. preferred.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Two (2) years full-time or equivalent part-time experience as an administrator at the chair or assistant chair level.
  • Experience in the practice of a health profession preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge: Program planning, assessment, accreditation budget planning, curriculum development and community partnership with arts and sciences. Understanding of higher education leadership.
  • Skills: Strong communication, planning, and time-management skills, conflict resolution skills. Make decisions based upon data.
  • Abilities: Display ability to work within the nursing and health professions field and its application to the institutional process. Show experience with distance learning and possess the ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to apply contract language to daily situations. Demonstrate leadership qualities, including the ability to build and develop effective teams, foster a collaborative culture, and actively support the professional growth and success of faculty and staff. Work well with colleagues and students.

About the Institution

Owens Community College is a comprehensive community college established in 1965 to provide educational opportunities and training to the residents of its communities. With two campuses, the Toledo-area Campus and the Findlay-area Campus, the College serves a broad and diverse region. Owens offers more than 160 programs and certificates to students who are preparing for a career, retraining for a new career, seeking professional development, or obtaining credits to transfer to a four-year college or university, some while still in high school. The College maintains 54 accredited programs through their own discipline-specific accrediting bodies.

The School of Nursing and Health Professions at Owens Community College offers a comprehensive variety of programs that reflects the breadth of today’s healthcare workforce needs. Across departments including Dental Hygiene, Exercise Science, Sonography, Health Information Technology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, and Surgical Technology, students can pursue certificates, associate degrees, and select bachelor’s pathways, as well as pre-professional concentrations that create clear academic progression. From hands-on clinical disciplines such as Nursing, OTA, PTA, Radiologic Technology, and Surgical Technology to specialized fields like Cardiac and Vascular Sonography, MRI, and Health Information Technology, the School prepares graduates with both technical expertise and collaborative practice skills.
