Position Summary

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Southern Utah University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, Lecturer of Interdisciplinary Studies. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Interdisciplinary Studies, Leadership Studies, and Organizational Leadership, with opportunities to develop and teach special topics courses that support and strengthen the department’s curriculum.

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS and MIS); General Studies (AA, AS, BA, BS, BGS); two minors (Global Studies and Public Lands and National Parks Studies); three undergraduate certificates (General Education, Leadership, Human Values), and three graduate certificates (Leadership Studies, Non-Profit Management, Online Teaching).

Essential Functions

  • Provide undergraduate and graduate instruction in Interdisciplinary Studies, Leadership Studies, and Organizational Leadership, ensuring alignment with programmatic learning outcomes. Teaching load is 30 credit hours per academic year (Fall/Spring). Summer teaching opportunities may be available.
  • Primarily teach courses in asynchronous 7-week and 14-week online formats, with potential opportunities to teach in-person courses based on departmental needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and effectiveness in online instructional methodologies and best practices.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students, including support for research, internships, and capstone projects.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain course curriculum to ensure academic rigor, relevance, and alignment with departmental standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) or comparable learning management systems.
  • Provide appropriate, timely, and substantive feedback and grades for all assignments.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Support department recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Engage in collaborative departmental service and interdisciplinary initiatives within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • On-campus presence is required for this position.

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.A. or Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies, or a related field housed in the SUU College of Humanities and Social Sciences with a sub-specialization in Leadership Studies or Organizational Leadership (completed by the start date).
  • Evidence of successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience.
  • Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Familiarity with online teaching delivery systems.
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary engagement in teaching, scholarship, service, or professional practice.
