Position Description

Georgia State University College of Law invites candidates to apply for a non-tenure track clinical assistant professor position directing its new Heirs’ Property Law Clinic to be launched in the Fall of 2026. The successful candidate will ideally begin duties in the Spring of 2026.

The Heirs’ Property Clinic’s mission is to preserve generational wealth, stabilize communities, and train the next generation of lawyers through high-quality legal representation and education focused on heirs’ property issues. Clients will receive legal assistance with estate planning, probate cases, title analysis, and other property-related issues. The clinic will also engage in community education, outreach, and collaboration to address systemic issues facing heirs’ property owners.

The clinic will serve as both a high-impact experiential learning program for law students and a critical access-to-justice initiative for underserved communities. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Developing and teaching a seminar designed to teach students substantive law and technical skills relevant for heirs’ property work;

  • Supervising students in client work and clinic projects;
  • Overseeing administrative and operating responsibilities associated with the clinic;
  • Managing and building relationships with community partners, funders, and referral networks;

Collaborating with partners and others in conducting research and policy advocacy consistent with the mission of the clinic.

In addition to directing the clinic, the director will teach one or more additional courses during the academic year, depending on the needs of the law school and the director’s expertise.

Required Experience

  • Applicants should have a strong academic record;
  • At least four (4) years of relevant post-J.D. legal experience;
  • Excellent experience in legal practice and lawyering skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving the legal needs of low-income individuals;
  • An interest in clinical teaching, and a proven record of (or clear demonstrated potential for) successful teaching and professional engagement.

Required Education

Applicants should have a Juris Doctor (J.D.), Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D.), Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.), LL.M. (Master of Laws), or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an ABA-accredited law school at the time of appointment.Membership in or the ability to become a member of the State Bar of Georgia before August 2026.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Prior probate and/or real estate experience in Georgia preferred.

A criminal background check is required.

Work Hours

Law Fiscal Year/12-month appointment. Hours necessary to support the administration of a clinic taught during the evening program, which begins at 6 p.m. The workload is 80% Teaching and 20% Service for an Assistant Clinical Professor.

Georgia State Law faculty may be required to work non-standard hours, including day, evening, online, blended/hybrid, and weekends, as determined by the Dean.

Salary: $100,000 – $125,000
