Job Summary
The Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Sciences delivers didactic and laboratory instruction in areas including microbiology, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, and hematology, develops curriculum materials, and evaluates student learning to drive continuous program improvement. The role advises and mentors students, supports accreditation and compliance efforts, collaborates with clinical affiliates, engages in scholarly activity, and provides service to the department, college, university, and community.

Essential Job Functions
Teaching:
-
- Teach didactic and/or laboratory courses within the MLS curriculum
- Develop course materials, assessments, and instructional strategies
- Support the coordination of clinical rotations and other experiential learning opportunities.
- Conduct clinical site visits and collaborate with clinical affiliates.
Scholarship:
-
- Engage in an active program of scholarly and/or creative activities.
- Maintain professional certification and continuing education.
- Participate in professional organizations
Student Engagement/Professional Service:
-
- Support student recruitment, retention, and mentoring and advising efforts.
- Promote student involvement in professional organizations and service learning.
- Initiate or support community/ outreach initiatives
- Support program accreditation efforts
- Assist with curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to institutional, professional, and community service activities.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field
Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Sciences, or a closely related discipline (preferred).
- Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field
Desired Qualifications:

- Knowledge of educational methods, curriculum design, and NAACLS accreditation standards and processes.
- Evidence of scholarly activity and professional service.
- Demonstrated interest in program development in laboratory science education.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of medical laboratory science and the ability to support student learning in laboratory activities.
- Awareness of current issues and emerging trends in medical laboratory science.
- Ability to integrate emerging technology and implement innovative instructional strategies in MLS courses.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and clinical partners.
- Experience designing course objectives, laboratory activities, and supporting curriculum materials, or demonstrated willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift up to 25 lbs and to perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.
