Scope of Job:
The School of Medicine’s Department of Primary & Community Care, Division of Population Health & Biostatistics, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Associate Professor. The Department of Primary and Community care brings together experts in women’s and children’s health, family medicine, internal medicine, integrated behavioral health, and population health. The Division of Population Health works with clinical, research, and community partners to translate new discoveries into clinical and preventive practice in the Rio Grande Valley population with the goal of improving the overall health of region. The Division is also a hub for interdisciplinary research and community-engaged research. It is home to the UTRGV Maternal Health Research Center and Community Engaged Partnerships Program that collectively work to provide needed services and resources in our three Area Health Education Centers (AHECs).
The Division is seeking an established investigator and faculty leader who will play a critical role in accelerating the growth, scale and impact of the Division’s population health research enterprise. The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic growth of the division, build a sustainable and impactful research program, and help foster a culture of excellence among faculty, staff, learners, and community partners. Applicant is expected to build a robust research portfolio as well as contribute to the School of Medicine’s teaching and service mission as needed. Academic rank will be awarded commensurate with experience and credentials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD) in Epidemiology, Population Health, Public Health, or a closely related field. Must be qualified to hold an Associate Professor rank.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated record of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university or professional level
Preferred Qualification:
- PhD in Epidemiology
- Track record of securing extramural research funding or strong potential to do so
- Experience mentoring faculty, trainees, or research staff
- Expertise in areas such as maternal health, chronic disease, clinical research or community-engaged research

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
