Job description

POSITION: Full-Time Dean of Business and Professional Studies (Dean): Academic Affairs; Haverhill and Lawrence Campuses; 37.5 hours per week; Non-Unit Professional Position.

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for the overall academic leadership and administration of unit staff, programs, courses, and services with this division. The Dean directly supervises faculty and staff across the following departments: Business & Accounting; Culinary & Hospitality; American Sign Language Studies; Criminal Justice; Early Childhood Education; Educational Studies; and Human Services, ensuring high-quality instruction and alignment with institutional goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serves as the sole management person for the division.
  • Provides overall academic leadership and administration of faculty, staff, programs, courses and/or services, for all credit courses within the division.
  • Hears students concerns, as appropriate.
  • Implements collective bargaining agreements and policies, in particular, complete supervision and evaluation of professional and classified personnel.
  • Ensures quality control for curriculum offerings and/or services.
  • Exercises leadership in the development and evaluation of curriculum and/or services.
  • Develops and implements grant and department budgets.
  • Provides leadership for the recruitment, selection and development of professional and classified personnel.
  • Provides leadership in the development and administration of grants.
  • Develops master course schedules and assignments of faculty/staff workloads.
  • Attends and participates in academic and other appropriate staff meetings.
  • Serves on Academic Affairs Leadership Team
  • Accepts other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Masters or doctoral degree related to any one of the academic areas within this division (Business & Accounting; Culinary & Hospitality; American Sign Language Studies; Criminal Justice; Early Childhood Education; Educational Studies; Human Services) or related field.
  • An outstanding record in higher education.
  • Service as a Chair, Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, or Dean of an academic department or division within a community college or a baccalaureate institution in one of the academic areas within this division (Business & Accounting; Culinary & Hospitality; American Sign Language Studies; Criminal Justice; Early Childhood Education; Educational Studies; Human Services).
  • Community college teaching experience in any one of the academic areas within this division (Business & Accounting; Culinary & Hospitality; American Sign Language Studies; Criminal Justice; Early Childhood Education; Educational Studies; Human Services).
  • Experience in working with a culturally diverse student population and an abiding personal commitment to the success of all students.
  • Extensive experience and facility in the teaching and supervision of online courses.
  • A commitment to and ability to travel between two campuses (Lawrence and Haverhill, MA).
  • An innovative spirit with rich experience in at least some of the following educational priorities at NECC: early college program, open educational resources, competency- based education, academic internships, apprenticeships, CTE programming, and equity-based education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment.

Additional Information:
SALARY: Anticipated starting salary range is $130,000.00 – $140,000.00 annually with complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
