The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) is the chief advocate for ensuring a student experience that is focused on personal development and success in an environment that is supportive, inclusive, equitable and engaging. The VPSA is responsible for the planning, execution, coordination, integration, management and evaluation of all Student Affairs activities. This senior level position will provide vision, leadership and overall administration for several departments and programs within the college including: Recruiting & Admissions, Accessibility Services, Financial Aid, Career Services & Academic Advising, Student Retention & Support Services, Registrar, Student Wellbeing & Conduct, Testing Services, and several grant funded programs including TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO EOC, TRIO Upward Bound, Pathways for Academic Career & Employment (PACE) Programs, DOJ Campus Programs (OVW – grant ends Sept 2026).
As a member of the President’s Executive Cabinet, this position will provide leadership in policy formation, strategic planning, and management in planning institutional programs, budget resource allocation and fiscal and personnel management within the Student Affairs division. Vital working relationships include Iowa Department of Education, federal Department of Education, federal Department of Justice, Iowa Department of Vocational Rehab, and regional 4yr colleges, local community service agencies including SEIRMC and SEIA Community Health Center, and district high schools. The Vice President will play a key leadership role within the college and the community and will keep abreast of local, state, national and global trends that may influence the college.
This position is a full-time position (261 workdays per year). The starting salary is $130,000 per year.

The Vice President for Student Affairs will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervise all aspects of the institutional student affairs operation within the Board Policies and Institutional Guidelines and report directly to the President any student affairs matter of relevance.
- Maintain a day-to-day knowledge of operations in all areas of responsibility.
- Establish operational procedures including short- and long-term planning for areas of supervision; orient all college employees to the important aspects of these programs and procedures.
- Supervise and/or prepare reports required by the President, the College, local/state/federal governments in a timely fashion.
- Attend all Board meetings to act as a resource person to the President and Board on all student affairs matters.
- Take active leadership role in the development, administration and evaluation of all Student Affairs activities and make recommendation to the President for continuation, discontinuation or revision of same.
- Develop and present to the President and Senior Administrative Team a tentative annual budget with detailed itemized calculations and justifications of projected revenue and expenditures for the Student Affairs Division.
- Supervise all expenditures in the areas of responsibility to ensure budgetary compliance.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of direct-report staff within the division and provide for their continued professional growth and development. Direct reports include Executive Administrative Assistant, Directors of TRIO SSS and TRIO Upward Bound (2), Dean of Students, Director of Student Retention & Support Programs, Financial Aid Director, Registrar, Directors of Admissions & Testing (2), Director of OVW Campus Programs Grant (grant ends September 30,2026).
- Supervise and assume ultimate responsibility for all TRIO programs, PACE programs, OVW, Title III, and other grant programs within position purview.
- Provide oversight and guidance for all student equity, inclusion, accessibility, rights and conduct operations and related institutional compliance.
- Serve as a liaison for student affairs for the College related to business & industry, federal/state grants, governmental agencies, other colleges, community groups and various organizations.
- Represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, legislators, business and industry, other educational institutions and the community we serve.
- Travel throughout the merged area will be somewhat routine with the possibility of some state and national travel.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Student Personnel/Affairs/Development, Psychology, Sociology, Guidance and Counseling, or appropriate discipline required. Doctorate degree preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of administrative experience required within the Student Affairs realm to include: education administration, budget management, program development, successful leadership, program evaluation, and compliance.
- Five (5) years of experience supervising employees required (e.g., hiring, training, guiding, managing and evaluating the performance of others, including experience with progressive discipline processes).
- Successful experience managing grant funded programs preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ direct related experience with academic advising, educational support programs, student orientation and first-year experience, individualized goal planning and programming for underprepared or disadvantaged college students, preferred.
- Direct experience with Guided Pathways preferred.
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities, perspectives, and levels of knowledge and experience across the college.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships, facilitate small and large group program-related activities, and general ability to effectively build consensus.
- Five (5) years of experience in the community college environment preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities that promote a team environment and encourage staff involvement in the decision-making process.
- Highly organized with independent critical thinking skills.
- Must have a thorough knowledge and remain constantly aware of policies, compliance rules and regulations, and trends relative to students and student affairs.
- Excellent conceptual and planning skills; ability to relate well with other professionals within the college and at other institutions.
- Exemplary personal qualities including integrity, honesty, flexibility, approachability, energy, enthusiasm and sense of humor.
- Demonstrated leadership role in community involvement through membership and participation in community and professional organizations.
- Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement strategic planning concepts.
- Self-motivated, energetic and creative individual with proven leadership, planning and administrative skills.
- Experience in a multi-campus college district preferred.
- Exceptional organization, management, planning, critical thinking and broad-scale conceptual skills required.
- Honesty, integrity and ability to handle highly confidential matters with discretion are required.
- Required proficiency with Microsoft Office programs; ability and willingness to learn and develop competency with: SCC’s administrative software (Ellucian) and related technology applications (HawkNet, Student Self-Service; CANVAS); learning-success/retention-focused/communication technologies (i.e. Drop Out Detective; Student Lingo; Acuity; Mongoose; etc.); Customer Relations Management (CRM) and current social media platforms.
