Position Information
The University of California Riverside (UCR) Health is seeking primary care physicians (family medicine and internal medicine-pediatrics) to provide patient care in primarily community-based ambulatory clinical sites in Riverside County. The successful physician will embody clinical excellence and possess outstanding interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships with patients and staff. The physician will be responsible for achieving quality and patient experience goals within a team-based care model. The successful candidate must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree, be board certified and/or eligible to practice in the State of California by the time of employment. Applicants must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and UCR affiliated hospitals. The full salary range for the Primary Care positions are: * Associate Physician Diplomate (board certified + 1 year exp): $142,100 – $348,100; expected pay scale for this position is up to $260,000 annually. * Associate Physician (board eligible + 1 year exp); expected pay scale for this position is up to $240,000 annually. * Assistant Physician (board eligible); expected pay scale for this position is up to $220,000 annually. These annual rates are at 100% FTE appointment. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure, certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
Requirements
Education Requirements
- Must possess an M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree.
- Possession of the education and legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
Experience
- Completion of medical residency program.
- Candidates must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and our affiliated sites/hospitals.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience post internship/residency.
- Experience in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Background and skills in clinical practice, clinical teaching, and managed care.
- Prior experience providing inpatient and/or outpatient care for adults and senior patients.
- Experience and interest in chronic disease management and working in interdisciplinary teams.
Minimum Requirements
Must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and affiliated hospitals. Ability to work independently under general direction and to work collaboratively with others. Must be eligible to practice in the State of California by the time of employment. Strong background and skills in clinical practice, clinical teaching, and managed care. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to stay abreast of new medical knowledge, and to maintain and increase expertise and skills as relevant to clinical practice. Ability to work effectively with staff and patients from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds, educational levels, sexual orientations and identities.

The physician will be responsible for achieving quality and patient experience goals within a team-based care model.
Key Responsibilities
- The primary care physician provides comprehensive ambulatory primary care for a panel of adult, child and geriatric patients within a growing, community-based ambulatory practice. This role is designed for physicians who value and build longitudinal patient relationships and focus on excellence in patient experience and quality. Achievement of quality and patient experience metrics are key deliverables of this position. The primary care physician leads with empathy and compassion. This role is part of UCR Health’s team-based care model where multidisciplinary care teams work together to provide excellent, evidence-based care. The primary care physician builds strong connections with the local community as well as the local community of physicians. This position is primarily ambulatory with clinical work centered in the ambulatory clinic environment. Physicians play an active role in establishing and growing patient panels, including by outreach to community, and with collaboration with specialty partners. While this is an ambulatory-first position, physicians may have an opportunity to participate in limited hospital call at a local partner hospital as part of practice development and community integration during early practice growth. The physician will build excellent relationships with patients, staff, and other physicians. Excellence in patient care includes presence and availability at practice site for scheduled patient care activities and efficiency goals.
- Direct Patient Care: Engage in a full range of direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of their overall professional responsibility within the clinical setting. Associate Physicians provide patient care activities that include but are not limited to: Clinical Ambulatory Setting: 1. Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and, when appropriate, determination of readiness and planning for discharge from the clinic. 2. Extensive and on-going communications with community primary care physicians, specialists, or hospitalists who routinely manage the care of patients in the inpatient or outpatient settings. 3. Day-to-day patient contact as necessary. 4. Panel management activities to advance quality, population health, and care management. 5. Achieve quality improvement, efficiency, and patient experience goals.
- Communication: Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor-friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment. Excellent and continuous communication with internal and external care teams.
- Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.
- Billing for Services: Accurately documents needed information to bill for services by recording diagnosis codes and completing corresponding documentation. Works with UCR billing services department, both clinical and nonclinical people, to explain, confirm, and review charges. Provides supporting documentation as needed.
