Job description

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health in the School of Public Health at Texas A&M University invites applications from outstanding candidates for a full-time, academic professional track (non-tenure) faculty position. This is a 9-month faculty appointment anticipated to start as early as August 1, 2026. Applicants will be considered at the rank of Assistant Professor of the Practice, Associate Professor of the Practice, or Professor of the Practice level, commensurate with the candidate’s industry and academic experience. Responsibilities include teaching, student advising, and community service, including industry engagement and oversight of a departmental Industry Advisory Board.
The selected candidate will report directly to the Department Head and will be required to teach a minimum of four courses per year. The candidate will also assist departmental leadership in developing and managing Key Performance Indicators of departmental success across educational programming, research, and service activities. A central responsibility of this position is oversight of the Department’s Industry Advisory Board, which consists of more than 70 industry leaders from across the country in the fields of environmental and occupational health. The Board serves in an advisory capacity to guide departmental faculty and staff in the development and delivery of educational programs and course content, and inform the Department of emerging issues and technologies, challenges, and workforce needs in the environmental and occupational health sector.
Oversight of the Industry Advisory Board will include:
* Ongoing engagement and communication with board members
* Identification and recruitment of new board members
* Planning and coordination of annual board meetings
* Visits to board member worksites
* Organizing philanthropic activities and student scholarship
* Development of student network with industry employers
* Additional duties as needed to support board effectiveness
The candidate will also have the opportunity to provide expert consultative services to the Center for Worker Health, contributing to the Department’s broader mission of advancing worker health and safety.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in environmental or occupational health or closely related field and at least ten years of industry experience in demonstrated leadership and managerial positions in the field of environmental or occupational health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or DrPH in environmental health or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising graduate students in the fields of industrial hygiene, occupational safety and ergonomics, environmental health, and risk management.
  • Board certifications, including:
    • Certified Industrial Hygenist (CIH)
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE)
    • Certified Health Physicist (CHP)
    • Certified Professional Engineer (PE) or other certifications such as Risk Management (ARM).
