Job description

The Korean Language Program (KLP) in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Korean Language to begin Fall 2027. This is a renewable, multi-year appointment contingent upon successful review.

The successful candidate will teach two to three Korean language courses per semester at various proficiency levels and times, in consultation with the KLP Director. Additional responsibilities include contributing to curriculum design, materials development, placement testing, and the organization and hosting of extracurricular events for students.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have:

  • A master’s degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, language pedagogy, or a closely related field; a Ph.D. or Ed.D. is strongly preferred.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Korean and advanced fluency in English.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching Korean at the college level.
  • Familiarity with AI-supported instruction and heritage language teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, research-informed pedagogy, and a demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment for a diverse student population.
