The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Teaching Professor/Business, Education, and Human Sciences Librarian in the University Libraries Gulf Coast Library to begin in the fall of 2026.

Job Summary
The Business, Education, and Human Sciences Librarian is a member of a team responsible for providing general and specialized research, instruction, outreach, and collection development services. The position serves as University Libraries’ (UL) primary contact with the College of Business and Economic Development, supporting instructional and research resource needs on the Hattiesburg and Long Beach campuses. The position serves as the primary contact between UL and Gulf Coast programs in the College of Education and Human Sciences, supporting instructional and research resource needs. The position engages in outreach initiatives that build awareness of library resources and services. Actively cultivating relationships with faculty, staff, and students in assigned academic areas is required. The primary office will be at Gulf Coast Library in Long Beach, MS. Some travel between the Long Beach and Hattiesburg campuses is required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides instruction in the use of research resources through course-integrated instruction and stand-alone workshops presented in person and online. Creates and maintains instructional tools, online tutorials, online guides (e.g., LibGuides), and other research tools in assigned areas.
2. Provides research assistance through individual research consultations, as well as providing reference and directional assistance to library users in person, by telephone, and via electronic communication methods. May participate in library programs that support open access and research data management within the scope of evolving library services.
3. Coordinates collection development for assigned areas.
4. Coordinates outreach initiatives that seek to engage students, faculty, and staff, with a non-exclusive emphasis on assigned academic areas.
5. Fulfills the duties of a Patent and Trademark Resource Center representative, which include, but are not limited to, assisting with the efficient use of patent and trademark information sources, marketing and outreach, maintaining an up-to-date web presence, and tracking and reporting metrics as stipulated by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
6. Engages in scholarship and professional development activities and provides service to University Libraries, the University, and the library profession to fulfill the expectations of a teaching-track faculty member. Working evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an American Library Association accredited program, or from an equivalent program accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country, OR equivalent advanced degree and experience. Demonstrated experience using online databases and other types of research resources.

• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability and desire to work cooperatively and effectively with library personnel, university students, faculty, and staff, and other library users.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to set and adjust priorities and workflow in a rapidly changing environment and to accept new challenges to realize departmental and library goals.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional advanced degree in a relevant academic discipline.
Demonstrated interest in business-related librarianship.
Demonstrated experience or interest in developing outreach programs that engage students and faculty with library resources.
Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design or instruction assessment.
Demonstrated knowledge of current business research, trends, and journals.
