Mary Baldwin seeks a leader who can creatively maximize existing resources, use modern recruitment technology effectively (MBU is implementing Slate this summer), and bring clarity, discipline, and accountability to enrollment work.

Founded in 1842 as an all-women’s college, Mary Baldwin University has evolved into a fully coeducational institution serving more than 1,700 students. MBU offers approximately 45 undergraduate and graduate programs and is home to distinctive offerings, including the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership and the Program for the Exceptionally Gifted. Located in Staunton, Virginia, MBU offers students a deeply personal educational experience in one of the Shenandoah Valley’s most vibrant small cities, known for its scenic views, culinary and dining diversity, as well as historic and architectural appeal. Consistently ranked as one of America’s favorite small towns by USA TodaySmithsonian Magazine, and Southern Living, it is recognized as one of the best places to live in Virginia by US News & World Report.

Beginning July 1, 2026, Mary Baldwin University will be led by Interim President Dr. Gary Daynes, a historian, educator, and higher education leader with more than three decades of experience at small, mission-driven institutions. He is the author of How to Be a Small College.
