Responsibilities
The open-rank position of Professor of Instruction/Coordinator of Field and Clinical Experiences-Teacher Preparation is housed in the Dean’s Office at the USF College of Education, Tampa, University of South Florida. The position reports to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and works closely with Department Chairs and teacher preparation faculty. The position requires a 12-month appointment.
The Professor of Instruction/Coordinator of Field and Clinical Experiences-Teacher Preparation leads coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of clinical practice across teacher preparation programs in the College of Education. Working collaboratively with program clinical coordinators and faculty, this role supports coherence, quality, and alignment of field and clinical experiences across programs and campuses. The coordinator develops and maintains partnerships with PK-12 districts to support placements, internships, and innovative clinical models, and serves as a key point of contact across university, district, and state stakeholders. Responsibilities include coordinating field placements (including large-scale introductory courses), supporting the credentialing and development of university supervisors, and establishing shared policies, structures, and practices to advance clinical education.
This position also supports professional learning, assessment, and accreditation efforts related to clinical practice. Responsibilities include designing and facilitating professional development for clinical stakeholders (e.g., supervisors, mentor teachers), coordinating college-wide events, and overseeing the development and use of evaluation tools, observation instruments, and dispositions assessments. The coordinator supports data collection and use for continuous improvement and accreditation, and monitors and communicates relevant state and national policy.
As part of the overall workload, the position includes teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses and engaging in field supervision within teacher preparation programs, as well as college and community related service commitments and/or assignments.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, Teacher Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience in clinical practice in teacher education
- Evidence of strong organizational, planning, and project management skills in a large educational/clinical setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., PK-12 partners, university faculty, and administrators)
- Previous PK-12 teaching and/or school leadership experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience coaching and/or supervising preservice and/or in-service teachers
- Experience designing, facilitating, and evaluating high-quality professional learning
- Demonstrated success in developing and sustaining school-university partnerships
- Experience coordinating or overseeing clinical/field-based components of teacher preparation programs
- Familiarity with accreditation processes and use of data for continuous program improvement
- Commitment to taking Florida Clinical Educator Training
- Experience teaching in higher education setting
