Job description

The Department of Modern Languages, Communication, and Philosophy at Tuskegee University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in English beginning Fall 2026. Specialties in any area of literature or writing studies welcome; teaching load is 4/4, typically consisting of 2-3 freshman composition courses plus 1-2 literature survey or upper-level literature courses per semester.

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach assigned English courses (four courses per semester in Fall and Spring semester) Developing syllabi, assessments, and course materials in alignment with institutional guidelines.
  • Use varied teaching methods to promote student learning and success.
  • Advise and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Maintain accessibility through office hours and electronic communication.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and administration.
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and submitting required reports.
  • Engage in professional development and demonstrating a commitment to instructional excellence.
  • Engage in scholarly research.
  • Participate in service to the department, University, and/or community.
  • Utilize pedagogy to enhance teaching and learning and to revise courses and teaching methods as needed to improve outcomes.
  • Interact cordially with students and colleagues in person and through electronic communication.
  • Make content of general education writing and literature courses engaging and relevant to students of all majors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in English, Literature, Writing, or a closely related discipline.
  • Record of successful teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experience utilizing Canvas learning management system

Physical Demands

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to view a computer terminal and engage in extensive reading.
  • Ability to walk short distances
  • Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
