Black Hills State University announces a full-time instructorship in multimedia journalism beginning August 2026. Subject to institutional needs, funding, and approval, opportunities for consideration for a future tenure-track appointment may become available.

DUTIES:
The teaching load per semester is fifteen hours. The successful applicant will be expected to teach face-to-face and online. Subjects to be taught may include reporting, news writing, social media, public relations, and integrated media. The position includes oversight of the campus newspaper and integrated media web site. The position may also include overseeing the campus radio station and/or Ponder Magazine, dependent on the candidate’s expertise.

The Successful Candidate will have the following:

  • An understanding of media theory, research, law, and ethics
  • Expertise with the technology in the field
  • The ability to train and manage a staff of student journalists, including non-majors
  • An active research agenda and/or creative work appropriate to a potential move to the tenure track
  • Professional experience in public relations and/or sports media
  • Radio experience

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Terminal degree in journalism, mass communication, media studies, or a closely related field. (ABD candidates considered)
  • Successful teaching experience at the postsecondary level
