Position Description:
Tenure-track Assistant Professor, U.S. Women’s History
The History department at the University of Iowa invites applications for a position in U.S. Women’s or Gender History at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin August 2027. We welcome applications in any era or area of specialization. The successful candidate must have a record of excellence in research and scholarship; be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in U.S. Women’s History (including general education surveys and courses tailored to their own research specialization); and be prepared to engage in the programmatic missions of the department.
Education Requirement:
- Must have the PhD in hand by August 15, 2027.
Required Qualifications:
- Record of excellence in research and scholarship in U.S. Women’s History
- Prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in U.S. Women’s history, as well as courses in their own research specialization
- Prepared to engage the programmatic missions of the department
Desirable Qualifications:
- First-rate scholarship in the field as evidenced by dissertation, book, or other publications
- Record of peer review as evidenced by fellowships, awards, or publications
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in a broad range of courses
- Potential to teach and advise graduate students outside U.S. Women’s history, based on thematic strengths
