Job description
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) seeks a visionary, accomplished president to lead the Georgia Institute of Technology at a moment of significant institutional visibility, strength and momentum. As one of the nation’s premier public research universities and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), Georgia Tech is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as No. 32 among National Universities and No. 9 among public national universities, with undergraduate engineering ranked No. 3 nationally and No. 1 among public universities. The next president will inherit an institution operating from a position of strength, with the opportunity to build on Georgia Tech’s national stature, expand its public benefit and propel the university through its next era of impact.
Guided by a mission to develop leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition, Georgia Tech offers one of the strongest value propositions in American public higher education, with notable gains in enrollment, degrees conferred, sponsored awards and startup activity. This ascent calls for a proven, forward-looking president who can lead with decisiveness, communicate with clarity, build exceptional teams, expand philanthropic support, understand and communicate the complexity of federal and sponsored research and modern athletics and sustain the commitment needed to advance Georgia Tech’s next chapter of leadership.
Georgia Tech begins this presidential transition from a position of national prominence, marked by record demand, expansive global reach and widely recognized student achievement. It is Georgia’s largest university, serving 56,715 students from all 50 states and more than 146 countries through undergraduate, graduate and online programs. That reach is matched by strong student outcomes, including a 93% graduation rate and national recognition for value and return on investment. Faculty and staff excellence drives Georgia Tech’s academic quality, research productivity and student experience. Recruitment, retention and leadership development will remain critical priorities.
Georgia Tech’s academic excellence is reinforced by a research enterprise that extends the university’s reach from the classroom to discovery, innovation and economic growth. In FY26, research expenditures reached $1.35 billion, while research awards totaled $1.54 billion, the highest year in the Institute’s history. This research productivity has propelled Georgia Tech to advance innovation in artificial intelligence, computing, aerospace, health, energy and advanced manufacturing while contributing an estimated $6.3 billion in annual economic benefit to the State of Georgia.
Philanthropy is accelerating this progress. The Transforming Tomorrow campaign has surpassed $2 billion, including more than $415 million in gifts and commitments in a record fundraising year that is advancing investments in students, faculty, discovery and strategic priorities. As part of this broader $2.2 billion Institute campaign, Georgia Tech Athletics has raised $453 million toward its $500 million goal as of July 31, 2026. Originally set at $300 million, the athletics goal was increased to $500 million in recognition of the early success and continued momentum of fundraising efforts.
Together, these assets make the Georgia Tech presidency one of the most compelling leadership opportunities in public higher education. With global stature, a vibrant community of learners and scholars and a deep commitment to innovation and public benefit, the university offers its next President a powerful platform to advance knowledge, strengthen prosperity and transform lives in Georgia and around the world.
The ideal candidate will have the experience, presence and strategic perspective to lead a major public research university, with proven success navigating financial, operational and organizational complexity. This leader will be a compelling ambassador for Georgia Tech, able to build trust and advance shared priorities with donors, government leaders, industry partners, alumni and civic stakeholders. Above all, the next President will lead with integrity, humility, sound judgment, political acumen and steadiness, while sustaining an unwavering commitment to student achievement, access, affordability, academic quality and student well-being.
The Board seeks an accomplished and visionary executive with a demonstrated record of leading a large, complex organization. While experience in higher education or the public sector is valued, candidates from other sectors with relevant leadership experience are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will bring a proven ability to manage substantial operations, lead transformational change, and deliver measurable results.
All inquiries, expressions of interest, nominations and applications will be held in confidence. Materials, inquiries or nominations may be submitted to [email protected]. Confidential inquiries may be directed to 404.962.3010.
