Position Description:

The Department of Biology is hiring a tenure track assistant professor of biology to join the department in July 2027. We are seeking a plant biologist in any area of plant biology, however those with an interest in plant physiology are especially encouraged to apply. We are looking for candidates with a demonstrated interest in teaching and conducting research with undergraduate students. The successful candidate will offer an upper-level course in Plant Physiology or other upper-level plant biology course with laboratory, and teach an introductory course with laboratory.

Pomona College is a private, undergraduate, selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 1,700 students. Pomona College is the oldest and founding member of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of institutions that include five undergraduate colleges and two graduate universities, located in southern California. Intercollegiate collaboration among the colleges provides university-scale services and facilities, including the Bernard Field Station and the Claremont Colleges Libraries. While each institution is independent, undergraduate students can take courses at any of the colleges and research collaboration among faculty is encouraged through professional development networks. Pomona faculty in the Environmental Analysis Department partner regularly with colleagues in and beyond Claremont.

Preferred Qualifications: A Ph. D. in a field of biology by the start of employment and expertise in plant biology is required. Teaching experience; a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and research; and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, in biology are also priorities.
