The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, a dynamic public research university, seeks a collaborative, visionary leader who will accelerate discovery, innovation, and impact in chronic conditions and well-being science. The University invites applications from accomplished nurse educators and scientists for a 9-month, full-time faculty, on-campus position in the Adult Nursing Department in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. COLLEGE OF NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS) offers nationally recognized, comprehensive programs in nursing and medical laboratory science. From its modern nursing labs and instrumentation in its MLS labs, to its outstanding faculty and local clinical partners, its rigorous programs prepare students for health science careers.
The College’s faculty members combine strong academic credentials with diverse experiences in clinical practice, leadership, and scholarship. They are dedicated to personalized teaching and mentorship.
CNHS is made up of three departments: Adult Nursing, Community Nursing, and Medical Laboratory Science. Nursing has 36 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in two Departments: Adult Nursing and Community Nursing.
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has a total enrollment of 846 as of fall 2025. The undergraduate degree program has students enrolled in the prelicensure traditional and accelerated, and RN to BS tracks. The College also offers graduate nursing programs at the MS, DNP, and PhD levels. Nursing is committed to building scholarship in the areas of chronic illness, nursing education, and global population health. Nursing has a long-standing teaching and research collaboration with the College of Engineering. Nursing also has a growing portfolio of international collaborations and offers unique clinical experiences through these collaborations. Programs are fully accredited by CCNE.
U.S. News and World Report ranks the College of Nursing and Health Sciences in the top 9% of U.S. Undergraduate Nursing Programs. It also ranks the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at #44 for best online master’s in nursing programs.

THE OPPORTUNITY
This endowed professorship offers an opportunity to shape the future of health and well-being for individuals, families, and communities living with chronic conditions. The successful candidate will be a visionary nurse scientist and educator, leveraging innovation and evidence-informed strategies to improve health outcomes and promote equitable care locally, nationally, and globally.
The endowed professor will lead and expand interdisciplinary educational opportunities, research, and partnerships focused on innovation in chronic condition care, prevention, and sustainable health and well-being. This will include developing strategic partnerships among academia, health systems, and communities and translating research into practice and policy.
As a national and global thought leader in advancing quality of life for people with chronic conditions, the endowed professor will mentor students and faculty in generating new knowledge that informs areas such as precision health, person-centered care and the science of well-being. The Endowed Nursing Professor in Health, Well-Being and Chronic Conditions Innovation reports to the Department Chair of the Adult Nursing Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications
- Earned PhD in Nursing or related field; if related field, MS in Nursing.
- Active, or eligible for, unencumbered RN licensure issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registered Nursing.
- Academic experience or its equivalent, meeting the rank of Associate or Full professor. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service.
- Demonstrated success in developing an externally funded program of research in areas related to the position, including experience as principal investigator.
- Evidence of national/international leadership in nursing or health-related professional organizations with a focus on understanding and advancing the health and well-being of people with chronic conditions.
- Strong communication, writing, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English equivalent to Level 5 on the Interagency Language Roundtable scale.
Preferred qualifications
- Leadership of multidisciplinary research teams
- Evidence of innovative research related to advancing person-centered care and health and well-being
- Evidence of a sustained program of research in chronic conditions care and well-being science, grounded in relevant frameworks, which may include but are not limited to person-centered care, precision health, digital health, planetary health, and implementation science
- Leadership in teaching and mentoring at the graduate level, with responsibility for advising research for various learner levels
- Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Full Professor
This is a nine-month academic position offering a salary range of $160K-$190K.
DARTMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS
A historic coastal town, Dartmouth is only an hour south of Boston and 30 minutes from Providence, Rhode Island. Known for its maritime heritage, Dartmouth’s fishing and boating culture abounds. The community boasts several parks, trails, nature reserves, and beaches along with abundant shopping and dining options.
With its rural charm of villages, farms, a vineyard, and a castle, Dartmouth is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and waterscapes like Buzzards Bay, Elizabeth Islands, and Cuttyhunk Island.
With a population of around 33,000, Dartmouth has both highly rated public and private schools and excellent medical centers and services.
The nearby community of New Bedford, located along the shores of the Acushnet River, is home to Buttonwood Park Zoo and the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
The campus of UMass Dartmouth is one of the largest and most unified expressions of Brutalist architecture in the United States.
