Essential Job Duties:
North Carolina State University welcomes applications for an appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in Hinduism. The faculty position will be housed in the Department of Integrative Humanities and Social Sciences (IHSS), with a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies (PRS).
The appointment in IHSS will be based in one of the following programs: International Studies; Science, Technology and Society; Arts Studies; or Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. A research focus on modern and/or contemporary periods preferred. Training in pre-modern languages and cultures welcome. The standard teaching load will be four courses per academic year, with two each in IHSS and PRS. Other responsibilities include research, publication, and service.

Other duties as assigned by the Department Head.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Successfully defended a PhD in Religious Studies or a closely related field by May 2027. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated a capacity to teach courses on Hinduism/South Asian traditions and methods/theory in the study of religion.
- Proven skills in teaching and facilitating research with a broad cross-section of students.
- Offer substantial course content in person and online.
- Commitment to an active research agenda.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary subject matter.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching at the university level.
- Doctoral degree in Religious Studies.
- Research interests in environmental issues, gender and sexuality, nationalism, politics, subaltern studies, and ethnicity are welcome
