The salary range for this position is $95,000-$110,000, commensurate with experience.Offer Information

Posting Summary
The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor for an appointment beginning July 2027. Candidates should have a specialty in climate change and planning law. Strong candidates will have a focus on legal, policy, regulatory, or contractual aspects of adapting to or mitigating climate-change-related problems. Examples include land-use planning, regulation of climate-responsive urban form for neighborhood design, energy facility siting, disrupted insurance and real estate markets, property buyouts, landlord-tenant law governing habitability, hazard mitigation in coastal and riverine locations, and zoning- and density-based solutions. We are particularly interested in scholars with a clear research agenda or practical experience in the following areas: adaptation in urban or coastal contexts; integration of hazard mitigation and municipal planning practices; or public utilities regulation.
The faculty member will teach in the Master of City and Regional Planning program and related graduate and undergraduate programs in the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. Candidates need to be able to teach Survey of Planning Law at the graduate level.Position Status: Full Time
Minimum Education and Experience
By June 1, 2027, hold a J.D. or a doctorate degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, civil engineering, public policy, urban informatics, or a related discipline, with a focus and specialized interest in responding to climate change.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
o Be clearly establishing a research profile of refereed research in high-impact journals and through national and international conference presentations.
o Demonstrate experience and skill in the use of legal approaches to help humans adapt to or mitigate a changing climate.
o Demonstrate willingness to secure external grant funds and the ability to be a team leader on funded research, supporting and supervising doctoral students and postdoctoral associates.
o Demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, with knowledge of inclusive and active teaching practices. Experience with teaching planning law is a plus.
o Demonstrate a willingness to network with external stakeholders and to communicate with the public via social media and other sources.Campus: Rutgers University-New Brunswick
