Job description

Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a non-tenure-track, full-time position as Visiting Assistant Professor to teach in the Department of German Studies for the 2027-28 academic year, beginning July 1, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment for 2028-29 pending review and approval. The Visiting Assistant Professor will read senior theses and teach five courses per academic year, including at least three language courses as well as at least one upper division content course (literature, film, culture etc.) conducted in German. ABD required, Ph. D. preferred. The successful candidate will shape the future of language acquisition in the department and, therefore, have demonstrable experience and expertise as well as substantial training in foreign language pedagogy. In addition, we are looking for an individual with a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education.

The salary for this position will range from $67,500 to $75,000 and will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. In light of recent federal updates to visa processing and associated costs, the College is generally not in a position to sponsor visas for faculty appointments.

Scripps College is one of seven members of The Claremont Colleges Consortium located 35 miles east of Los Angeles. In keeping with its ongoing commitment to build and support an inclusive academic community, Scripps College seeks applicants who will actively support Scripps College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values.
