The Boston University School of Social Work MSW (BUSSW) Program is committed to transformative education. Our mission is to cultivate dynamic and diverse social work leaders, practitioners, and scholars committed to advancing equity, inclusion, social justice, and the well-being of populations through rigorous teaching, innovative research, and transformative community engagement. Across our brick and mortar, online, and hybrid learning platforms, BUSSW enrolls more than 900 students living and working in Massachusetts and throughout the United States. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Student Experience provides vision, leadership, and oversight for the student experience at BUSSW. They oversee student services and academic advising across all learning platforms and promote inclusive and welcoming activities and supportive initiatives to ensure student success and well-being for full- and part-time students. In this capacity, the Assistant Dean supervises the Directors of Student Services, working with them to plan, evaluate, and review student services activities that: promote community, belonging, and engagement; support retention, program completion, and academic success; and sustain and improve student satisfaction. This position provides administrative leadership through supervision of a large team, including the Directors of Student Services. The Assistant Dean is a member of the Deans senior administrative leadership team and collaborates closely with the Assistant Dean of Practicum Education, Assistant Dean of Teaching and Innovation, the SSW Registrar, and relevant university-level committees to ensure that all functions of the student services department are contributing to the mission and strategic vision of the school.

Required Skills

Master’s degree in social work, 8+ years of post-MSW experience in administrative leadership with specific experience developing, implementing, and evaluating student services initiatives in both traditional brick and mortar academic environments and online learning platforms strongly preferred. Prior experience teaching at the graduate level preferred but not required. Demonstrated success in leading and mentoring staff and the design and implementation of innovative student services programming. Successful candidates will have extensive knowledge of current trends and best practices in university/collegiate student services, demonstrated success managing teams, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, staff, and students. Some evening and weekend work required.
