The University of Montana, School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (UMPT), within the College of Health, invites applications for two (2) tenure-track open rank professors (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program beginning Fall 2026.

The DPT program is a fully CAPTE-accredited 2.75-year entry-level program with 36 students per class. It is the only Physical Therapy program in the state and has been CAPTE-accredited for over 40 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and advising students in the DPT program
  • Establishment of an active research agenda. Numerous opportunities for collaborative research are available within the School, College, and University, as well as with other clinical partners, and healthcare institutions
  • Service on department and university committees as well as the profession

The instructional load for the position will be consistent with other tenure-track faculty of the same rank and will align with your expertise and interest. Teaching content is negotiable, and flexibility will be possible to balance your interests with the needs of the program.

Position Details

Tenurable Faculty: School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (UMPT)

Title: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor; rank is dependent on applicant’s qualification and experience

Schedule: Full time, academic year (10 months)

Salary: $84,000 to $104,000 pay is dependent on applicant’s qualification and experience

Benefits: Medical Insurance/Mandatory Retirement Contribution/Professional Development/Partial Tuition Waiver/Wellness

Primary Duties: Primary duties include teaching, scholarship, and service. Teaching responsibilities may include a combination of required, elective, and clinical courses.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree (PhD, EdD, ScD, DSc)
  • Demonstrates ability to independently engage in scholarly activity
  • Experience in teaching in higher education or equivalent
  • Effective communication and collaborative skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold a current physical therapy license and be eligible for physical therapy licensure in Montana
  • Experience obtaining and administering extramural research funding
  • Prior experience and evidence of effectiveness in teaching physical therapy curriculum
  • Board Certification and/or residency/fellowship training in a clinical practice area
  • Clinical experience in multiple healthcare settings (e.g., outpatient, acute care, home health)
