The Herschend School of Education at Gordon College invites applications for a full time tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor to teach in an Ed. D. program in the Science of Learning with emphasis on Language and Literacy Education. This is a primarily online program with an annual one week residential summer institute. Position to begin May or August 2027. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
Gordon College is a Christian liberal arts college located in Massachusetts on Boston’s North Shore, a beautiful coastal area with easy access to Boston. This Ed. D. builds on the Herschend School’s thirty year history of rigorous graduate education programs grounded in evidence-based practices to equip all children to learn to read proficiently. Our graduate reading specialist program has the distinction of the “accreditation plus” rating by the International Dyslexia Association. We seek faculty excited to build on this legacy in a CPED-aligned doctoral program aiming to graduate scholar-practitioners ready to serve as the next generation of leaders, change-agents, problem solvers, and advocates within K-12 education, speech-language pathology clinical practice, education policy, and educator/SLP preparation.
Responsibilities:
- Teach online graduate courses and participate in annual residential summer institute; Depending on expertise, possible option to also teach in person undergraduate courses.
- Advise students, supporting the full student experience, including timely degree completion;
- Participate in and chair dissertation committees;
- Serve on the admissions committee, collaborating to screen applicants and select new cohort members;
- Engage in research and scholarly activities, including seeking grant funding and fostering external partnerships;
- Engage in purposeful service to the institution and the profession.
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:
- A commitment to the Christian mission of the college;
- Earned doctorate in education, speech-language pathology, cognitive psychology, or a closely related field;
- Expertise in the science of learning, language and literacy education, instructional leadership, and/or research methods;
- Commitment to evidence-based practices to equitably support all learners, including culturally and linguistically sustaining practices;
- Three or more years of experience with K-12 teaching/tutoring, SLP clinical practice, or applied research;
- Evidence of effective teaching, with preference for experience teaching in online settings;
- Demonstrated leadership in education or clinical settings;
- Active research program with potential for student collaboration;
- Passion for mentoring aspiring literacy leaders;
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
Anticipated Salary Range: $64,733 – $97,300 commensurate with experience.
