LeTourneau University, a vibrant and growing interdenominational, evangelical Christian university, known for high-quality STEM programs that attract students of outstanding academic ability, invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of English, Department of Humanities & Social Sciences. This is a tenure-track position, with rank negotiable based on experience. This faculty member will teach a range of composition courses. The ideal candidate should have excellent team-building skills and the interest and experience to provide growth to the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences. Research and teaching experience are highly desired.

This is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer teaching. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily on weekdays but could include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance is required at some evening and weekend events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach a full-time load (12 credit hours per term) of courses in English composition and writing, including both lower and upper division coursework, in a highly engaging way
• Contribute to the development of writing courses in the classical rhetorical tradition
• Participate actively in the university learning community by serving on department, school, and/or university committees and special service assignments
• Participate in student advising, success, and retention programs
• Maintain an active agenda of scholarship or professional engagement within the discipline

QUALIFICATIONS:

• LeTourneau University seeks an individual with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith who is committed to teaching, research, and leadership at a small, dynamic Christian University where the integration of faith and academic excellence is paramount. The candidate must be in genuine agreement with the University’s Statement of Faith and Community Covenant for life and work at LeTourneau.
• An earned doctorate (Ph. D.) in English, Rhetoric & Composition, from an accredited university or in a closely related field. Candidates with a Master’s in English or Rhetoric & Composition with significant experience teaching classical rhetoric and composition may be considered.
• Commitment to working within a program emphasizing primary texts in the Great Books Tradition. Knowledge of Latin preferred
• Demonstrated teaching competency
• Interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally interact with students, colleagues, and administrators in a university learning community
• The successful candidate will be able to think creatively and critically about the essential role of the humanities (and writing, in particular) within the “Christian Polytechnic University” mission and provide leadership for efforts to fully infuse the humanities within the learning environment and campus culture of LeTourneau University. This includes developing communication and analytical skills in students majoring in technical fields such as engineering, aviation, computer science, etc.
