Position Summary

The University of St. Francis is looking to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to begin August 2022. Specialization in Rhetoric and Composition. Secondary field is open, but we are especially interested in candidates with expertise in one of the following areas: African American/African Diaspora Studies, Hemispheric American/Latinx Studies, Comparative/Transnational Literature, or Film/Media/Visual Culture Studies.  Expertise in digital humanities, computational methods for studying literature and culture, or writing program administration all a plus.  The University of St. Francis is a welcoming community of learners committed to enhancing diversity and equity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of English is a tenure-track position that requires teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities. Developing and sustaining a research program is expected; student involvement in faculty research is desirable. Student advising and appropriate service necessary for success on the tenure track are also expected.

Teaching in our First-Year-Experience program as well as introductory, advanced, and graduate-level courses in writing and rhetoric is expected. Teaching load 4/4 (24 credit hours/year). We are looking for a candidate who will help us to continue expanding the wide variety of courses we teach in the English Department:  courses in rhetoric and writing, digital humanities, digital publishing, and literary and cultural studies.

Minimum Requirements

  •  Earned Ph.D. in English or related field at time of appointment.
  •  Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  •  Potential for scholarly achievement.
  •  Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the University mission.
  •  Ability to work with diverse populations.
  •  Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.

Preferred Requirements

  • Higher education teaching experience.

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule

This is a 9-month position, from August – May.

Physical Requirements of Position

Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
