Job Description

The Department of Environmental Sciences at Tennessee State University (TSU) in the

Professor of Silviculture. The position’s start date is anticipated to be fall 2026.

We seek candidates in silviculture or applied forest ecology focused on silvicultural issues

confronting forest ecosystems in Tennessee and the southeastern United States. Potential

research avenues for this position may include but are not limited to managing forests for

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research

program that informs the management of forest ecosystems in Tennessee and the southeastern

United States. The incumbent will work closely with the Tennessee Division of Forestry,

Cooperative Extension Service at TSU, and the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and

Fisheries at the University of Tennessee in developing applied research projects and service-

related activities.

Indicators of an internationally recognized research program include securing competitive

external funding, publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals, making substantive

contributions to advance understanding of silviculture and applied forest ecology, and

mentoring graduate and postdoctoral researchers.

Teaching responsibilities are an annual undergraduate course and lab in Silviculture and a graduate course in your specialty. The incumbent will be a key faculty member in the Department’s pursuit for accreditation by the Society of American Foresters for an undergraduate degree in Natural Resources and Ecosystem Management.
