Job description

Provides instruction and assesses student learning in Physical Science, Technical Math, Technical Math for Electrical Circuitry, Technical Science and other related courses. The instructor will collaborate with colleagues to maintain and develop curriculum, develop programs, and facilitate activities that promote student success and lifelong learning, and provide ongoing student support.

Essential Responsibilities:

A. Provides instruction and assesses student learning within their discipline.

B. Selects and reviews educational strategies and materials to facilitate achievement of competencies related to each course taught.

C. Prepares current syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with course master syllabi, college policies and procedures.

D. Meets classes as scheduled by the college and maintains office hours as stated in the KCC Faculty Association Contract.

E. Evaluates student performance, including maintaining and providing tenth day and midterm attendance in addition to grade records for each class.

F. Remains current with content, technology, and teaching and learning strategies in the discipline.

G. Assesses student learning outcomes at the class, course, and general education levels as defined by the Student Learning Committee.

H. Participates in curriculum and course development.

I. Attends division and faculty meetings and communicates regularly with the division Dean regarding instructional concerns.

J. Participates in faculty evaluation and in-service development activities.

K. Works in a collaborative manner and responds to phone and email requests promptly.

L. Assists the division Dean in the recruitment and selection of part-time instructors.

M. Provides course materials and assistance to part-time instructors as requested by the division Dean.

N. Strongly considers serving on college committees.

O. Assists in budget preparation by recommending supplies and capital items where applicable.

P. Follows the policies and procedures of the college as stated in the Faculty Handbook and the KCC Faculty Association Contract.

Q. Represents and interprets the discipline informally at available opportunities such as high school visits, community gatherings, etc.

R. Attends the commencement program.

Educational and Experiential Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

A. Master’s degree in a Physical Science and the ability to teach technical science and technical mathematics courses are required. A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Physics is preferred.

B. Prior teaching experience in multiple modalities is preferred.

C. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching in a community college setting.
