Black Hills State University seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in an area of Clinical Psychology.
Duties for this position include teaching undergraduate courses in psychology with an emphasis on clinical practice, engaging in appropriate research/scholarly activities, initiating and sustaining a research agenda that is friendly to undergraduate student research assistants, and participating in or leading service activities.
The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; will have the ability to connect theory to practice; will work well in collaborative settings; and demonstrate cross-disciplinary research potential-particularly in the fields of Human Services, Sociology, Exercise Science, or Outdoor Education.
Courses may include: General Psychology, Theories of Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Human Sexuality, Psychology of Trauma, Undergraduate Internship, courses in cultural diversity, and courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The applicant may also cover various general core courses within the Psychology major. Teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Courses will be offered at the Spearfish campus, online, and other affiliated locations.
*Doctoral degree in Psychology
*ABD considered – degree completion must occur no later than July 1, 2023. The 2022/2023 contract will be a term contract at the Instructor level, $4000 lower than the terminal degree compensation. The 2023/24 contract will include $4,000 salary increase and assistant professor rank reflecting degree completion. Upon request, one-year prior service may be applied toward promotion and tenure, with BHSU and BOR approval.
*Thorough understanding of current best practices in clinical psychology related to the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct as well as the American Psychological Association’s Guidelines for the Undergraduate Major.
*Documented effective performance in teaching, research, and service
*Cross-disciplinary research potential
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*Face to face and online teaching experience
*History of scholarly activity
*License or license eligible in the state of South Dakota
