Job Description
Opportunity at a Glance
The Associate Dean of Assessment and Evaluation is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of assessment strategies across the medical/clinical science and clinical rotation curriculum to ensure the highest standards of academic evaluation and student performance. This role works collaboratively with faculty, administration, and accreditation bodies to maintain the integrity, fairness, and effectiveness of all assessments in the preclinical and clinical curriculum. Build partnerships with key stakeholders (COO office, Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education for Medical Sciences, Deans of Medical Education for Clinical Rotations, UK Campus Dean, Associate Dean of Medical Education, Medical Sciences Academic Affairs, Module Directors and Faculty members)
Responsibilities
- Design and implement assessment strategies aligned with accreditation standards and institutional goals
- Collaborate with Module Course Directors and faculty in creation and administration of formative and summative assessments, including multiple-choice exams and written assignments
- Ensure the reliability and validity of all assessments
- Design and implement an assessment system of clinical students rotating thru clerkships
- Ensure appropriate standard-setting methods are applied to maintain consistency in grading and performance evaluation
- Monitor and analyze assessment data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement
- Provide faculty with data-driven insights to enhance curriculum delivery
- Design and implement an evaluation system of medical/clinical science courses and clinical clerkships and clinical sites
- Collaborate with faculty to develop high-quality assessments that align with course objectives and USMLE requirements
- Provide training and support on best practices in assessment design, exam security, and grading methods
- Support the integration of assessment technologies, including online testing platforms and item-banking systems
- Stay updated on emerging trends in medical education assessments and recommend innovative approaches.
- Ability to travel to internationally as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
Qualifications
- PhD MD or equivalent degree in medical education, assessment, or a related field Required
- 5+ years In medical education assessment (basic/clinical science and clinical rotations), program evaluation, and faculty development Required
- Strong understanding of psychometrics, standard-setting methodologies, and accreditation requirements
- Experience with assessment software and online testing platforms such as Exam soft is preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficient in data analysis software, statistical software, and database management systems.
- Thorough understanding of higher education assessment methodologies, accreditation standards, and data analysis techniques
