The Associate Dean for the School of Nursing provides strategic, operational, and academic leadership to support the school’s mission of excellence in nursing education. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and university leadership to advance academic programs, promote student success, ensure accreditation compliance, and foster a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
Curriculum
- Provide strategic leadership in the design, development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of nursing curricula to ensure alignment with accreditation standards, licensure requirements, and emerging trends in healthcare education.
- Collaborate with faculty and program directors to integrate evidence-based practice, health equity, technology, and innovation across all academic programs.
- Lead curriculum review processes, including course mapping, assessment planning, and outcome evaluation to support academic rigor and student success.
- Oversee the implementation of academic policies and procedures related to curriculum, progression, grading, and program integrity.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of reports related to curriculum for internal governance, accreditation bodies, and regulatory agencies.
Assessment:
- Oversee the School’s ongoing assessment process, including timely submission of required reports.
- Work with Chairs, Directors and assessment coordinator(s) to ensure syllabi clearly articulate student learning and professional development outcomes
- Ensure that student learning outcomes are achieved and measurable through both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Assist programs in using e-portfolio for program & school wide assessment
- Promote data-informed assessment of student academic achievement and retention.
- Collaborate with the School Assessment Committee and assist programs preparing for university-based program reviews.
- Partner with the Dean to implement and evaluate the school’s institutional effectiveness plan.
- Coordinate the preparation of the school’s annual assessment report.
External Partnerships and Contracts:
- Collaborate with the Dean to develop and strengthen partnerships with external institutions and agencies.
- Oversee contract implementation and instructional staffing (full-time and adjunct) across all departments within the school.
Accreditation:
- Collaborate with the Dean and Office of the Provost to assist programs in preparing documentation and responses state, national, regional, and professional accreditation reviews.
Teaching:
- Teach a minimum of 3 credits annually to remain actively engaged in teaching excellence, maintain familiarity with learning management system, and understand evolving instructional practices and student needs.
Other Responsibilities
- Represents the School and Dean at University, community, and professional meetings as requested.
- Participate in Associate Dean and leadership meetings across the institution.
- Attend national meetings relevant to academic affairs and nursing education.
- Serve on a twelve-month contract.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by School Dean.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Earned doctorate or terminal degree in nursing or related field.
- Minimum of ten years of teaching experience at postsecondary level.
- Rank of Associate or Professor required.
- Five years of progressive administrative experience in higher education.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to synthesize conceptual frameworks into teaching applications, using current and best practices in instruction, including online modalities.
- Demonstrate capacity to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and coordinate efforts within and across academic units.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and collaborative skills in working with faculty, students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with distance education models is preferred.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, team-oriented environment that reflects respect, equity and professional integrity.
