Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of the Cordell and Ava Haymon Endowed Chair of Music Therapy. The successful candidate, having demonstrated exceptional teaching, research, and clinical skills in academic settings, will be appointed with tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Funding from the endowment will be controlled by the holder and provide significant research and instructional support on an annual basis. The Chair will report to the Director of the School of Music, housed within the College of Music and Dramatic Arts. LSU, a major School of Music at a Research 1 university, welcomed its first freshman cohort of music therapy majors into the Bachelor of Music Therapy degree in fall 2023.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as chair of Music Therapy at LSU, teach courses in music therapy, oversee clinical experiences
  • Build/maintain a national/international profile as an expert teacher and researcher
  • Provide service and participate in faculty governance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education Level: Doctorate in music therapy or related area
  • Years of Experience: 3-5 years
  • Specific Experience: Appropriate professional credential or designation in music therapy; minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience; evidence of mastery of all professional level and applicable advanced competences in music therapy; experience in developing music therapy clinical partnerships in medical and other community settings; a record of scholarly publication; demonstrated ability to guide graduate research.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific Experience: Experience in successful grant writing for extramural funds; experience in music therapy supervision and clinical program oversight; leadership in local, regional, and/or national music therapy or related professional organizations.
