About the Opportunity

The Department of Medical Sciences within the Bouve College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University is seeking a 52-week, 1.0 FTE (0.1 FTE Medical Director, 0.9 FTE principal faculty), benefits eligible, non-tenure track open rank Clinical Professor & Medical Director. Primary responsibilities include leadership, teaching, and participation in all aspects of curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. The Medical Director will also assist in maintaining accreditation standards and participating in any activities necessary to maintain Northeastern at the forefront of PA education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently or previously licensed PA or osteopathic or allopathic physician
  • Currently or previously board-certified
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • A minimum of (3) three years of clinical experience as a practicing physician
  • Evidence of successful teaching, ideally in physician assistant education
  • Knowledgeable about the PA role and have experience with the PA scope of practice
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency with computer technology (i.e. word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, databases)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: The Medical Director ideally will have experience in as many of the following areas as possible: prior administrative experience, strategic planning and budgeting, resource allocation and assessment planning; program accreditation; technology integration into the educational experience; and online learning.

Principal Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Academic counseling of students
  • Participate in all aspects of Program administration
  • Participate in all aspects of program accreditation activities, including ongoing program review and the continuous self-study process
  • Serve on the admissions committee, including applicant selection
  • Participate in clinical site development
  • Participate in clinical site monitoring, including performing site visits during clinical rotations
  • Participate in all aspects of curriculum development and curriculum evaluation
  • Participate in program goals, mission statement, and program values review and revision
  • Participate in all aspects of program evaluation
  • Review and revision of program competencies
  • Review and revision of program goals
  • Assist in the development and implementation of remediation plans for students in the didactic and clinical years, as needed
  • Provide continuous development, maintenance, and evaluation of both didactic courses and clinical rotation sites
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student performance to ensure that they successfully achieve the criteria for successful completion of courses
  • Coordinate, teach, and instruct courses based on areas of content and clinical expertise
  • Advise and mentor students; participate in all aspects of retention and academic progression
  • Facilitate small group discussion sessions; participate in simulation and physical diagnosis and skills labs
  • Develop criteria and procedures for didactic and/or clinical courses consistent with ARC-PA Standards
  • Perform additional assignments at the direction of the Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program

Medical Director Responsibilities:

  • Active participant in the program
  • Development and review of the program competencies to meet current practice standards as they relate to the PA role
  • Assist the Program Director in ensuring that both didactic and supervised clinical instruction meet current medical practice standards
  • Oversee immunization record process for incoming and current students

This faculty position is four days per week, allowing for one day of clinical practice.

Pay Range:
52-week salary ranges: Associate Clinical Professor: $131,000 – $165,000* | Clinical Professor: $165,000 – $185,000* | *Additional Administrative stipend to apply to Director duties.
