Description

The CDL Instructor and CDL Program Coordinator is responsible for delivering high-quality commercial driver’s license (CDL) instruction and overseeing the coordination, implementation, and quality assurance of CDL training programs at satellite-campus locations. This role includes direct teaching duties as well as program administration, with a focus on appointing and managing adjunct instructors and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a professional CDL driver.
  • Instructional experience in a CDL or similar training program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain FMCSA-approved trainer certification under ELDT guidelines.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to off-campus sites as needed.

Preferred:

  • Associate degree or higher in a related field.
  • Previous experience in program coordination or academic administration.
  • Experience working with adult learners and workforce development agencies.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and FMCSA ELDT compliance standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to and work from various off-campus training locations.
  • Outdoor work in varied weather conditions.
  • Requires driving and supervising vehicle operation regularly.

Major Responsibilities/Duties

Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Deliver classroom, yard, and behind-the-wheel training for CDL students in accordance with FMCSA ELDT requirements.
  • Instruct students on pre-trip inspections, vehicle control, and road driving skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Evaluate student competencies through testing and skill assessments.

Program Coordination Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate CDL training programs at the Delta Training Site with a future build out of CDL at the Ephraim Campus in collaboration with community partners, employers, and adjunct instructors.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise adjunct CDL instructors to ensure instructional quality and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain class schedules, instructor assignments, and equipment use plans.
  • Ensure all instructional sites and vehicles meet regulatory and safety standards.
  • Serve as liaison between the college and off-campus training sites.

Compliance and Administration:

  • Ensure the CDL program adheres to all FMCSA, state DMV/DOT, and institutional guidelines.
  • Assist in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous program improvement.
  • Maintain up-to-date program documentation including syllabi, student records, and audit reports.
  • Collect and report data for performance metrics, funding requirements, and accreditation purposes.

Outreach and Communication:

  • Coordinate with marketing and admissions to promote CDL programs at off-campus locations.
  • Engage with local employers to form and lead an industry advisor committee to meet workforce needs and to align programming with regional employment needs.
  • Attend meetings and professional development activities as required.
