Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction and the Associate Vice President of Instruction, the Dean of the Natural Sciences will be responsible for performing duties in the administration and supervision of the instructional area. Duties include: instructor assignments, class schedules, staff evaluations and development, curriculum evaluation and development, budget recommendations, facilities utilization, and administration for day, extended day, weekend, off-campus, and summer offerings. The disciplines supervised by the Dean of Natural Sciences include: Astronomy, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, and Physics.

Typical Duties
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Providing leadership in the area of Natural Sciences, including recruitment, program development, and program review and evaluation.
- Assisting with the development of partnerships with external agencies relevant to the Natural Sciences area, including articulation with area school districts and business and industry workforce development.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of program advisory committees.
- Promoting the assessment of student outcomes in order to determine the effectiveness of student learning and student development programs in the area.
- Providing leadership for the integration of career and general education courses and programs.
- Developing and managing appropriate grant opportunities and collaborative projects.
- Providing leadership in assuring access for students through distance education and educational center offerings.
- Preparing and assisting in reports as necessary for the Vice President and President.
- Working evenings and weekends as required.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Have one (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.
- Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
