Job description

The University seeks a mission-driven Director of Campus Ministry to lead and grow a vibrant Catholic ministry that fosters the spiritual, personal, and leadership development of students.

Position Summary

The Director provides strategic and pastoral leadership for campus ministry, including liturgy, faith formation, retreats, service, and outreach. This role cultivates a welcoming, inclusive environment that promotes spiritual growth, ethical leadership, and community engagement among students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Recruitment: Direct campus ministry programs; supervise staff and student leaders; recruit students through outreach to high schools, parishes, and youth groups; support enrollment goals.
  • Worship & Formation: Oversee liturgical life in collaboration with the Chaplain and VP for Mission; coordinate retreats, RCIA, and spiritual formation opportunities.
  • Pastoral Care & Student Development: Provide mentorship and spiritual guidance; foster leadership development and interfaith engagement.
  • Service & Outreach: Lead service projects, mission trips, and social justice initiatives rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Administration: Manage budgets, assess programs, track outcomes, and participate in university committees.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic higher education and mission
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience in campus, youth, or pastoral ministry preferred
  • Collaborative, student-centered approach with diverse stakeholders

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in theology, pastoral/ministry or related field required; Master’s preferred.

Experience

  • At least 4 years of campus ministry or equivalent experience
  • A practicing Catholic who understands, appreciates, and will ensure the Catholic character, mission, and identity of the community; should be comfortable around young adults
  • As a minister of the Roman Catholic Church, the successful candidate will maintain a lifestyle that is publicly consistent with Catholic teaching and values
  • Strong pastoral skills with a theological framework for ministry
  • A demonstrated record of collaborative leadership
  • Provides effective management, supervisory, and organizational skills (i.e., judgement, appropriate confidentiality and budget management)
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the pastoral needs and spiritual development of undergraduate students
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the Providence charisms, mission and core values
  • Knowledge of Church documents related to Campus Ministry (i.e., Empowered by the Spirit and Sons and Daughters of Light)
  • Knowledge of Catholic sacramental preparation processes, especially baptism, confirmation, Eucharist, RCIA, funerals
  • Experience in working with young adults or college campus ministry preferred
