Job description

The University of Alabama in Huntsville is accepting applications for the regular full-time position of Director of Student Ethics & Education. The Director of Student Ethics and Education oversees a fast-paced office and provides leadership for the department charged with the administration of the College’s undergraduate and graduate conduct system for individuals and organizations.

Some of the duties and responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the investigation and disposition of complaints and information concerning possible violations of the Student Code of Conduct, residential violations, organizational violations, and violations of law
  • Advising students, faculty, administrators, and family members (where appropriate) regarding the procedures of the Code of Conduct/Student Rights and developing and implementing related training and community-education efforts
  • Serving as an administrator, content expert, and trainer on the daily use of Maxient, including, but not limited to, completing compliance audits, creating student correspondence, student of concern referrals, adding case update information, and all reporting required by the university
  • Managing the UAH Student Handbook, including content and procedure for the student conduct process
  • Advising, overseeing, and training hearing officers and student conduct board members appointed by the Faculty Senate, President’s Office, and the Student Government Association
  • Meeting with Student Representatives yearly to gain their insight/feedback on the Student Code of Conduct and process
  • Managing and overseeing all digital and hard copy student conduct and care records
  • Assisting the Associate Dean of Students with the coordination of Charger 360, a university-wide referral and reporting program, providing intervention and educational services to students of concern
  • Creating and executing a co-curricular programming model by collaborating with campus partners to identify strategies and programs addressing/educating students, faculty, and staff on campus issues beyond the student conduct process, including, but not limited to, academic integrity, alcohol and other drugs, sexual assault/misconduct, and bystander intervention
  • Seeking innovative ways (educational plans/sanctions) to educate students on their rights and responsibilities as members of the UAH Community
  • Working in collaboration with campus partners to create various reports, brochures, flyers, and public relations campaigns related to student conduct data and educational topics
  • Serving as a Campus Investigator at the discretion of the Associate Dean of
    Students/Deputy Title IX Coordinator
  • Assisting with the supervision of student workers and interns
  • Staying abreast of and complying with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, and guidance related to student conduct, Clery, Stop Campus Hazing Act, and
    any future such items
  • Staying abreast of current developments in student conduct and related events, maintaining a professional
    network of educators through contacts and memberships or association with local, regional, and national professional associations and organizations
  • Researching of national trends related to student rights and responsibilities, writing goals and objectives,
    conducting assessments, and leading long-range departmental strategic planning as it relates to the mission and values of the University of Alabama in Huntsville
  • Managing Departmental Educational Modules
  • Assisting with the day-to-day functions of the Office of the Dean of Students, including other duties as assigned
  • Participating in occasional on-call for responding to student emergencies and campus crises.

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree, 3 to 5 years of full-time verifiable professional work experience in student conduct, enforcing community standards/civic education, or a closely related field at a post-secondary level, or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience. Must possess a demonstrated ability communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff and the general public. A Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, or higher education (or similar) is desired. Previous experience with Maxient (or similar case management system), Banner, Learning Management System Software, EAB Navigate, and Access Control System, such as Blackboard is preferred. Title IX Investigation Experience desirable. Experience with restorative justice practices is preferred. Experience with administering educational programming is desired.

The approximate starting salary is $55,000-$60,000 with an excellent benefits package.
