Job description
The College of Education and Human Development at Louisiana State University in Shreveport invites applications for the position of Professional in Residence for Social Work. The primary responsibility of the selected candidate will be to lead the development of a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSW) program.
This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track academic staff position with variable administrative and teaching assignments, reporting to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development. Work in this role will begin immediately. The position is based in Shreveport and is not eligible for remote work. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive, or all-inclusive description, of duties and responsibilities.
Areas of responsibility include, but not limited to:
- Review and annotate the existing draft proposal — Provide feedback on structure, content gaps, and alignment with Board of Regents requirements.
- Develop course descriptions for new Social Work courses — Support the drafting of field seminar, Human Behavior and the Social Environment (HBSE), research methods, capstone, and policy courses in alignment with the CSWE 2022 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS).
- Assist with curriculum mapping and credit hour distribution — Ensure sequencing supports generalist practice and relevant licensing pathways.
- Draft or review student learning outcomes and assessment plan — Align outcomes with CSWE competencies and SACSCOC expectations.
- Advise on field education structures, recommend field placement models, supervision requirements, and strategies for engaging community partners.
- Support narrative development for workforce relevance — Emphasize connections to underserved student populations and behavioral health workforce gaps.
- Teach undergraduate or graduate courses depending upon qualifications.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
- Minimum 5 years in social work education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CSWE accreditation and EPAS standards.
- Experience participating in curriculum development for undergraduate social work programs.
- Knowledge of competency-based social work education and assessment practices.
- Experience working with or supporting field education/internship programs in social work.
- Demonstrated familiarity with the ethical and professional standards of the profession, including the code of ethics from the National Association of Social Workers.
- Ability to produce written reports, program proposals, and policy documentation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with academic leadership and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (PhD or DSW) in Social Work or a related field.
- Experience serving as:
- BSW Program Director
- Department Chair
- Dean or Associate Dean
- Field Education Director
- Direct experience leading a program through CSWE accreditation or candidacy.
- Experience serving as a reviewer or site visitor for the Council on Social Work Education.
- Experience developing or launching a new BSW program at a college or university.
- Experience designing program assessment plans and competency evaluation systems.
- Demonstrated ability to build agency partnerships for field placements.

Physical Demands
Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

About LSUS Department of Psychology
The Counseling Programs are located within the Department of Psychology, housed in the College of Education and Human Development. The Department has an active community clinic for research and training that is shared by the Counseling programs, Specialist in School Psychology Program (SSP) and Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis (MSABA) program, and students/faculty involved in undergraduate clinical experiences.
