The basics of this position:

The Science Department of St. Louis Community College is seeking three Full-time Faculty members in Biology. These positions are full-time, continuing faculty positions to start in Fall 2025. Positions may be on multiple campuses, to include Forest Park, Meramec, Florissant Valley or South County. Faculty will teach lecture and laboratory classes in anatomy and physiology, non-majors biology, and microbiology to a diverse group of students in a range of teaching modalities (face-to-face and hybrid). The successful candidate will demonstrate the use of varied teaching techniques that help students develop critical thinking skills and support student success. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to student advising, engagement in departmental activities, and contributions to the College community. Some evening instruction will be required.

What you’ll do:

  • Formal course contact teaching of 15 credit hours of biology lecture and lab courses per fall and spring semester.

    Teaching assignments will primarily consist of courses at the Forest Park or the Florissant Valley campuses.

    Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed. Teaching assignments may occur on other STLCC campuses.

    Prepare instructional material and execute instructional activities in accordance with course learning objectives.

    Preparing and correcting examinations and other student work assignments.

    Scheduling student conferences to review individual student progress.

    Assistance in student academic advisement.

    Participation in the curriculum review process, including the evaluation and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation of student learning.

    Participation on department, division, campus and college-wide committees.

    Attendance at faculty meetings and institutional ceremonies or meetings.

    The College reserves the right to assign other normal professional responsibilities as may be appropriate.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

A Master’s degree in Biology or a Master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in biology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Secondary education or community college teaching experience with graduate courses in education and biology. Experience with different modalities of biology education (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
Experience with active and experiential learning.
Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes.
Commitment to professional growth including a demonstrated willingness to improving teaching methodology.
