Job Summary

The primary duty will be to teach six courses (24 credits) per academic year in the highly specialized and visible Hot Glass area. This role requires a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and professional development, willingness and ability to manage and develop a highly technical and physically demanding studio, as well as a commitment to promoting the University and Art Department through professional work, Teaching and student development and Service activities, and working collegially with other faculty and staff.

Authority and Accountability

This position reports to the Chair of the Art Department and will be responsible for the budgetary responsibilities of the Glass area. This position will also be responsible for student workers and technical support in that area.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • MFA in Glass or related field
  • At least one year of teaching glass art courses at the college level
  • Must be able to work in a collegial manner with other faculty to develop a diverse and vibrant 3D area which includes sculpture and ceramics and support other areas in the Art Department as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing, building and fabricating equipment tools and fixtures.
  • Experience in design and layout of glass studios.
  • Maintaining and developing glass furnaces, kilns and cold shop equipment.
  • Experience with flameworking and/or neon facilities and processes, the ability to engage with technologies including 3D modeling, 3D printing, and CNC are a plus.
  • Experience and expertise in managing and/or teaching upper-level classes in at least one of the studio areas listed above preferred.
  • Experience with budget management and ordering of materials and supplies.
  • At least basic fabrication skills and the ability to learn new skills as required.
  • Experience supervising student workers and coordinating with staff and faculty across disciplines.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are also preferred.

The position is a full-time, exempt state role with comprehensive benefits.
