Job description

College of Saint Mary is focused first on students and their excellence, and seeks a Research and Instruction Librarian who wants to excel with us — someone ready to be a genuine campus partner, to guide students and scholars through the new frontier of AI and information literacy, and to build what academic library excellence looks like for this generation and the future.

Our Ideal Candidate’s Education and Experience Includes:

  • Master’s degree in library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association is required and two years of professional library experience is preferred.

Responsibilities for This Position Include:

  • Teaching and Instruction. You are, at your core, a teacher. You will design and deliver information literacy instruction across the curriculum, from first-year undergraduates finding their footing to graduate students conducting original research destined for publication.
  • Research Partnership for Scholars. Scholarship, excellence, and rigor drive our faculty and capstone students. You will be their guide from research design and source strategy through citation practice and discipline-specific tools.
  • Own Information Literacy in the Age of AI. A signature opportunity at a pivotal moment. Working directly with CSM’s Chief AI Officer, you will help establish instructional foundations that will guide students and faculty for years to come. The question of what it means to be information literate right now is genuinely unsettled and you’ll help answer it.
  • Manage the Digital Front Door. Students and faculty access the library through screens first. You will own the digital experience: evaluating, acquiring, and maintaining the electronic resources, platforms, and tools that make research possible.
  • Outreach and Community Connection. The library doesn’t stop at its walls. You will develop programs, guides, and outreach that connect students, faculty, and community members to the library’s resources and to each other.

Why You Want to Be on This Team:

  • Impact from day one. At a small, vibrant institution like CSM, you are not one of dozens. You are the Research and Instruction Librarian — a genuine campus leader whose decisions shape how every student and faculty member engages with information and scholarship.
  • A community worth showing up for. Our faculty are dedicated, collegial, and many are nationally recognized in their fields. They teach the healthcare providers, educators, and leaders of tomorrow and they want a library partner who takes that seriously. You’ll have real relationships here, not just a desk.
  • Build it right, from the ground up. The intersection of AI and information literacy is new territory for every academic library. CSM is leaning in, not waiting. You will help establish the foundations that define what scholarly integrity and research excellence look like in this moment.
