Description

The Pueblo Community College Library empowers students to be informed participants in careers and society by providing equal access to information, teaching information literacy and critical thinking skills, and creating opportunities for community engagement.

The Manager of Library and Student Experience oversees daily operations of the Library Service Desk and frontline patron services, including circulation, basic reference, book displays, passive programming, and website marketing. The position supervises the Library’s work study students.

The annual salary for this position is $58,200 and may be up to 5% higher depending on relevant experience, education, and certifications when compared to others doing substantially similar work. While all offers are compliant with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, there is no guarantee that an offer will be above this value.

Job Duties

Essential Functions

  1. Manages circulation services including proper check-in and check-out of materials, accurate shelving, and communication with Technical Services regarding material condition.
  2. Resolves patron complaints and problems.
  3. Manages patron material contracts and overdue notices.
  4. Places and releases overdue holds in the library’s Integrated Library System (ILS) and in the college’s student information system (Banner).
  5. Collaborates with the Cashier’s Office to coordinate reimbursement for long overdue materials.
  6. Coordinates opening and closing of the library with library staff and work study students.
  7. Coordinates staffing coverage aligned with library hours and institutional needs.
  8. Performs and monitor basic research assistance.
  9. Refers patrons to appropriate resources, including relevant materials, PCC departments, community resources, the Book a Librarian service, the Learning Center, and the Bookstore.
  10. Ensures consistent service standards across all modalities, including email, in-person, and telephone support.
  11. Maintains functionality of library technology and equipment including identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving issues.
  12. Works with library staff, PCC IT, and Public Safety to address problems related to the laptop kiosk, desktop computers, printers, scanners, security cameras, and other library technology.
  13. Reports database and electronic systems issues to vendors and CCCS Libraries outage channels and follows through to resolution.
  14. Maintains accurate vendor contact information and manages library devices, updates, and device-related contracts as needed.
  15. Works directly with the ILS vendor and other vendors to maintain equipment and systems functionality.
  16. Collaborates with the Director of Library Services to identify and communicate supply and equipment needs.
  17. Serves as person in charge when Director of Library Services and Academic Librarian are unavailable.
  18. Assists Academic Librarian and Director of Library Services with placing, processing, and returning inter-library loan materials.
  19. Collaborates with Director of Library Services and Academic Librarian with passive and active programming.
  20. Upkeeps physical appearance and functionality of library by collaborating with Housekeeping and the Director of Library Services on condition of furniture, layout, and signage.
  21. Creates marketing for library services, programming, and collections on the library webpage.
  22. Creates book displays to highlight library services and collections, ensuring displays are accurate, relevant, and aligned with institutional priorities.
  23. Assists the Director of Library Services and Academic Librarian in conducting the annual inventory of all library collections at every location to ensure compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.
  24. Evaluates patron and work study feedback and makes informed purchase and weeding recommendations to the Director of Library Services.
  25. Manages and regularly evaluates permanent homepage features, including Search Everything, Databases A-Z, Book a Librarian, and Ask a Librarian, ensuring ongoing usability, currency, and alignment with patron needs.
  26. Supervises and trains federal work study students to accomplish library operational, circulation, and service responsibilities, while maintaining full accountability for the quality, accuracy, and completion of assigned work.
  27. Interviews, hires, trains, schedules, approves timesheets, and supervises 15-20 hour/week work study employees.
  28. Serves as the initial point of contact for applicants, manages the full recruitment and interview process, including collecting resumes and references, coordinating interviews with library staff, and extending offers.
  29. Coordinates student schedules to align with class schedules, library hours, and full-time staffing needs to ensure consistent coverage.
  30. Processes contracts through Ultimus in collaboration with Financial Aid and Human Resources, tracks contract funding throughout the year, and works with the Director of Library Services to implement performance improvement plans and terminations when necessary.
  31. Oversees activity at the Library Service Desk and on the Library Floor and serves as the first point of contact for work study questions and daily guidance.
  32. Conducts annual and periodic evaluations, provides one-on-one training on routine tasks, develops, updates, and distributes online training modules through the D2L(Desire2Learn) course management system, and delivers group training as needed.
  33. Directs and reviews work study assessment of library databases and resource guides to ensure accuracy and functionality.
  34. Assists Director of Library Services and Academic Librarian with projects and tasks.

  • Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.
  • Serves on committees and other groups as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s Degree or Certificate in Library Technician or related field.

Experience

  • Two years of experience in a library or related field
  • One year of experience with circulation services and/or reference services.
  • Experience creating, uploading, and maintaining information digitally.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification and the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of technology including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Applications, Google Suite, ILS programs, printers, scanners, and video conferencing software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with multiple diverse groups to include students, colleagues, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds.
  • Ability to push/pull a fully loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Ability to read and communicate in English.

Travel

  • To the Saint Mary Corwin campus (Pueblo) and Fremont campuses (Cañon City)

Schedule

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
