MFT Faculty Job Description

Kairos Pacific University, a Christ-Centered University, seeks a qualified Marriage and Family Therapy faculty member to teach graduate courses, mentor developing clinicians, and contribute to the quality and effectiveness of the MFT program. The faculty member provides instruction grounded in systemic and relational practice, supports students’ clinical and professional development, and advances the university’s mission through teaching, service, and scholarly or professional engagement.

Essential Responsibilities

Teach assigned graduate MFT courses within areas of demonstrated expertise, using systemic and relational perspectives and evidence informed clinical practices. Develop and maintain syllabi, learning activities, assignments, and assessments aligned with approved course objectives and program learning outcomes. Provide clear expectations, timely feedback, accurate grades, and accessible opportunities for student consultation; maintain complete academic records. Create an inclusive learning environment that addresses cultural context, identity, power, privilege, and the needs of diverse individuals, couples, and families. Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, professional identity, ethical practice, and readiness for clinical work. Evaluate student competencies and professional conduct; document concerns and participate in student support, remediation, and retention decisions under university policies. When assigned and appropriately qualified, teach practicum courses, provide clinical supervision, and collaborate with clinical training personnel and placement sites to support student learning and client welfare. Participate in curriculum review, program assessment, faculty meetings, committee work, and continuous improvement; assist with accreditation and regulatory documentation as assigned. Maintain professional competence through continuing education, clinical engagement, scholarship, presentations, or other activities appropriate to the appointment. Follow university policies and applicable professional standards; protect student and client confidentiality and model appropriate professional boundaries.

Required Qualifications

Terminal degree in marriage and family therapy or a closely related clinical discipline from an institution acceptable to KPU, with graduate preparation and demonstrated competence in systemic and relational therapy. Current, unrestricted marriage and family therapist license in at least one jurisdiction. For duties requiring local licensure, hold or obtain the appropriate license before performing those duties. Clinical experience providing systemic therapy to individuals, couples, and families, with expertise relevant to assigned courses. Ability to teach and assess graduate students, communicate clearly, provide constructive feedback, and collaborate effectively with faculty and staff. Demonstrated commitment to ethical clinical practice, culturally responsive education, and respectful engagement with diverse students and communities. Ability to use the university’s learning management system and instructional technologies and to fulfill the responsibilities of the assigned delivery format. Ability to support and work within Kairos Pacific University’s mission and educational philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications

Earned doctorate in marriage and family therapy or a closely related discipline. Graduate teaching experience, particularly in MFT education and online or hybrid learning. AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation or supervisor candidate status; experience supervising graduate MFT trainees. Experience with curriculum development, student learning assessment, clinical training coordination, or accreditation activities. An established record of scholarship, professional presentations, clinical leadership, or community service.

Additional Requirements for Clinical Supervision

Faculty assigned to supervise clinical work must meet the applicable licensing board, jurisdictional, placement site, and university requirements before supervision begins and maintain required credentials throughout the assignment. A clinical license or professional supervisor designation alone does not establish eligibility for every supervisory assignment.

How to apply

Submit a letter of interest addressing qualifications and alignment with KPU’s mission, a curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, evidence of current licensure, and contact information for three professional references. Include a brief statement of teaching approach and, if available, teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching effectiveness. Submit materials to [email protected] by December 1, 2026.
