Political Science/Sociology Instructor
Certificated, Tenure-track, Full-Time, 10-month, $73,744- $131,551/ annually
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision of the Vice President of Instruction and within the Liberal Arts and Sciences Division, the Political Science/Sociology Instructor will teach classes in the areas of both Political Science and Sociology, where the majority of students enroll to satisfy general education requirements. In addition to any area of specialization, the person in this position should have experience teaching students of different academic levels and diverse backgrounds and should have a repertoire of effective teaching methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of program development, including course development, scheduling, student academic advising, and working collaboratively with other faculty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title.
- Teach courses in the fields of Sociology and Political Science, including American Government and Politics, Introduction to Sociology, and Introduction to Race and Ethnicity, that satisfy a range of student needs that include general education coursework as well as major-specific coursework in Political Science, Sociology, and related fields.
- Create and implement culturally responsive and equity minded course material, teaching practices, and learning assessment strategies that enhance student success and persistence toward academic/career goals and that help close equity gaps and promote social justice.
- Participate in the continuing development of instructional support strategies.
- Fulfill non-teaching assignments such as scheduled office hours, selection of textbooks, evaluation of course materials, curriculum development, student advising, program promotion, and participation in departmental meetings, and in shared governance committees, including the Academic Senate.
- Complete program reviews, budget development, and the assessment of student learning at the course and program levels.
- Communicate and collaborate with other full-time and associate faculty on scheduling, department goals, instructional strategies, and developments in the field.
- Conduct activities supporting Sociology and Political Science majors and improving student retention and success.
- Assist in the development of outreach materials and participate in related activities.
- Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (e.g., grades, syllabi, census reports).
- Plan, oversee, and prepare reports on campus civic engagement activities.
- Participate in professional growth and remain current in the subject area(s).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
