Job Summary
The Rio Grande Consortium for Advanced Research on Exascale Simulation (Grande CARES) team, within the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department, is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Assistant Professor. This position is focused on advancing the understanding and application of complex physics and physical phenomena in intricate engineering systems through collaboration with the Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) ‘s Center for Computing Research. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge computing research, including exascale computing, GPU computing, Scientific Machine Learning, and scalable/performance code development, while also coordinating workforce development initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced research in computational technologies (CFD/FEM), particularly focusing on exascale computing, GPU computing, and developing scalable and high-performance codes.
- Collaborate with the Sandia’s Center for Computing Research to enhance computational modeling and simulation (M&S) techniques for addressing complex, multi-physics engineering challenges.
- Develop and integrate innovative computational algorithms using high-performance computing (HPC), machine learning (ML), data analytics, and uncertainty quantification (UQ) to improve the reliability, efficiency, and safety of engineering systems.
- Coordinate and contribute to workforce development efforts, assisting in the creation and implementation of an innovative curriculum aimed at educating a varied and skilled workforce in advanced computing and multi-physics modeling.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams of researchers from UNM, NMSU, NMT, PVAMU, and Sandia to tackle multi-physics coupling and system-level engineering challenges.
- Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Computational Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with advanced computing technologies, including exascale computing, GPU computing, and scalable/performance code development.
- Strong foundation in multi-physics modeling and simulation, with experience in CFD/FEA, or similar computational methods.
- Proficiency in programming languages and tools such as Python, C++/Fortran, CUDA, MPI/OpenMP.
- Experience in HPC environments and applying ML or data analytics in engineering simulations.
- Proven research ability, as demonstrated by publications in relevant academic journals and presentations at conferences.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional team.
