The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Department of ChemicalEngineering (https://cheme.mit.edu/) in Cambridge, Massachusetts invitescandidates for tenure-track faculty positions starting July 1, 2027, or on amutually agreeable date thereafter. Appointment will be at the assistantprofessor level. In special cases, however, an untenured associate or seniorfaculty appointment may be possible, commensurate with experience. Candidatesmust have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a related field by the start ofemployment. Candidates with research and teaching interests in every arearelevant to the field of chemical engineering will be considered, includingbut not limited to candidates with areas of research in chemical andelectrochemical catalysis and reaction engineering; computational andmolecular modeling; biomanufacturing, bioprocess engineering, or appliedsynthetic biology; process systems engineering and energy systems; biomedicalengineering and advanced technologies for health and the environment,sustainability; and materials design and engineering. All strong candidatesin chemical engineering fields are encouraged to apply. Faculty dutiesinclude teaching classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advisingstudents, conducting original scholarly research, developing course materialsat the graduate and undergraduate levels, and being involved in service toMIT and the profession.

The successful candidate will be provided with a generous start-up package to complement outstanding laboratory and office space, as well as access to state-of-the-art core facilities across the MIT campus. The pay range for a 9-month academic appointment at the entry-level Assistant Professor rank (excluding summer salary): $143,000 – $147,000. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements. This pay range represents base pay only and does not include any other benefits or compensation. The candidate will be assigned senior faculty mentors who will aid in the professional development of the candidate and provided discretionary funds for professional expenditures.
