The Position
The Workforce and Professional Education Department at Ocean County College is a leading provider of healthcare education and training dedicated to preparing individuals for successful careers in the medical field. We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Veterinary Assistant Instructor to join our team and contribute to the success of our students.
Veterinary Assistant instructors are responsible for teaching students in both classroom and hands-on lab settings, ensuring that they gain the knowledge and skills that are required for entry-level employment in their chosen field. The Instructor is responsible for delivering established curriculum to students in a professional and proficient manner in order to be certified through the National Association of Veterinary Technicians (NAVTA).
Veterinary Assistant instructors will utilize sound educational practices towards the academic development of each program student, manage their classroom and lab environments, and promote a positive and engaging learning experience, provide support, tutoring and other assistance as needed. This position also assigns and grades assignments, inputs attendance records, monitors/orders supplies, and ensures an effective/safe learning environment through classroom management.

Instructional Duration: Semester Based
Rate: $458/CEU (Continuing Education Units)
*Pay per class is dependent on the number of assigned Continuing Education Units (1 CEU is equivalent to 10 hours of work)
What You Will Do
1. Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on, and theoretical lessons on veterinary assisting topics including animal care, clinical procedures, pharmacology, and more.
2. Prepare for and instruct established and approved curriculum to students in a professional manner.
3. Review and discuss syllabi requirements at the start of each term with students.
4. Answer all student questions as they arise to ensure student understanding and completion of assignments.
5. Ensure students are aware of safety policies and monitor for correct procedures.
6. Maintain student records.
7. Develop and implement effective lesson plans.
8. Update curriculum based on industry certification, licensure and standards.
9. Oversee student externships.
10. Assist in the maintenance of equipment and supplies for program use.
11. Recognize need for and initiate student support plans and tutoring as needed.
12. Maintain professionalism within the classroom and coach students on their professionalism.
13. Other duties as assigned.
The Successful Candidate Must Have
1. Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Science, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a veterinary technician or assistant in a clinical setting.
3. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) in good standing.
4. Ability to use common software programs (MS Word/Excel/Outlook/Power Point etc.)
5. Knowledge of and compliance with state and federal regulations related to veterinary practice and education.
6. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with advancements in veterinary medicine and education.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Great interpersonal skills.
Even Better If You Have
1. Bachelor’s Degree.
2. 1-year instructional experience in an educational or work-related setting.
3. Experience teaching in a classroom setting or as a Supervisor at a medical facility.
