Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Teach 4/4 load in journalism and mass media (face to face and online)
Contribute to the program curriculum in film-style and digital media production, multimedia writing, media performance, and/or related mass media experience
Demonstrate an active creative work (Clinical Asst. Professor) or research (Asst. Professor) agenda
Maintain a current understanding of changes and trends in the profession and effective pedagogical practices
Provide service as required at the departmental, college and university levels
Student advising
A commitment to working with a diverse student population and teaching at the undergraduate level as well as expertise that complements the strengths of existing faculty
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrated experience in digital media, digital design and computer-assisted reporting/video production
M.A. in Journalism or Mass Media/Communications from an accredited institution or a closely-related area (non tenured appointment) OR
PhD in Journalism or Mass Media/Communications from an accredited institution or a closely-related area (tenure-track appointment).
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience (which may include professional experience in public relations, advertising) in a multimedia organization and/or teaching experience at the college level, including experience working with college students in internships, student media or other professional settings
Experience teaching multi-platform journalism in digital media environments and/or entrepreneurial journalism is desirable
Ability to contribute substantively to digital humanities projects within the department and College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts is preferable
SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:

Possible supervision of student workers and/or graduate assistants as appropriate and necessary.
