Summary of Position:
Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. KCAD is seeking a full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach in Digital Art and Design. As a KCADfaculty member, you will engage in three kinds of professional development: continuous improvement in teaching effectiveness, creative and/or scholarly contribution within your discipline, and a college service commitment that includes committee work and community engagement for the advancement of KCAD’s mission. You will assist with advising students regarding their academic plan and progress as well as their co-curricular and post-graduation opportunities.Digital Art and Design graduates will be innovative artists and designers, well prepared to create rich media experiences that combine imaging, animation, sound and interactivity.
This teaching assignment with the BFA in Digital Art and Design program focuses in 2D Motion Design, 3D Motion Design, and Video Production. The Digital Art and Design program includes curriculum in 2D Animation, 3D Game Art, Visual Development, Interaction Design, and Motion Design as well as a course in animation and medical illustration. Full-time, tenure-track faculty members at KCAD teach 18 semester credit hours per academic year, typically 3 courses each fall and spring semester.
Master of Fine Arts degree or a terminal degree in an art and/or design field related to content being taught.
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of a combination of recent relevant professional industry experience in 2D motion design, 3D motion design, and video production.
Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
- Minimum of 1 year of full-time university or college-level teaching experience (or 6 courses of adjunct teaching).
- Experience in medical visualization.
- Experience with current software including After Effects, Premiere, Cinema 4D, Modo, ZBrush, and Audio.
- Understanding of accessibility and universal design practices.
- Ability to engage in evidence-based assessment.
Teach an appropriate course load.
Advise students for academic and professional development.
Participate in service to the college and in shared governance.
Prepare and distribute syllabi according to college standards.
Participate in academic functions including commencement.
Assess and evaluate student learning and provide formative feedback.
Provide leadership in ongoing curriculum development, and related activities.
Provide leadership in the research and specification of facilities and equipment requirements needed to support the program.
Ongoing coordination of equipment and facilities checkout system, inventory and physical space management.
Contribute to the college’s continuous improvement.
Keep regular posted office hours.
Maintain effective communication with students and colleagues.
Work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff throughout the college.
Contribute to your discipline’s discourse(s).
Engage in scholarly, creative and professional development.
Engage in reflective self-assessment for improvement, renewal and promotion.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in industry standard motion design and video production software, hardware and production processes.
Proficiency in industry standard conceptual development for motion design and video.
Experience in the mentoring/training of motion design and video production techniques.
Ability to adapt to a variety of 2D and 3D motion design and video software.
